The new Mary Poppins movie, Mary Poppins Returns, is coming out in December, and we are SO excited! At heart, the Mary Poppins stories are about seeing the magic that surrounds us in our everyday lives … and we have found something truly magical in something seemingly mundane.

Did you know that you can make music out of pencil math? That’s right! By using a pencil to write certain numbers and mathematical operations in the correct sequence you can play a song. Watch and listen below (you have to have your sound turned up.)

If you want to try “playing” The Chimney Sweep Equation for yourself, all you need is a sharp pencil and paper. Write the equation below and listen for the musical magic contained within the math!

    Enjoy!

Before I came to Mathnasium, I could sum up everything I felt about math in one word: 'EVIL!' I hated math. ... Mathnasium has been my safe haven. They truly have shown me the light when it came to addressing my fear and provided me with the tools that I need to rebuild my prior knowledge so that I won't forget it. Math is no longer a subject I shy away from but it is a subject I can boldly accept and understand.
